I am considering purchasing Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition from Steam, and I have two inquiries.
First, do I need to buy any earlier versions of the game to play if I only get the Definitive Edition?
Secondly, is there a large number of players who are active and have short wait times when I log in at any time of day?
1) yes, although there are some newer expansions that won’t be included without buying them.
All of the old base game and dlcs from the hd era +aoc will be included though.
2) yes there is a healthy playerbase.
You can find games through matchmaking at any time of day
