I started immersing myself in RTS games this year, having exhausted my interest in games like Stardew Valley, My Time at Portia, Story of Seasons/Harvest Moon games, Rune Factory games, and many others. I derive pleasure from devising a strategy and completing monotonous tasks, and AOE 2, without a doubt, satisfies this need. I find it to be much of the same rhythm, even when eliminating the enemies – mass-produce the best attacking unit, send it to the opponent’s civilization, and so on, although I mostly play solo against AI opponents while listening to audiobooks and podcasts.

Is there anyone else who, like me, stumbled upon this game after playing cozy/simulation games? Do you play both cozy and AOE 2 games? Do you have any recommendations that offer similar repetitive building experiences?

I kinda tried to play against AI and have fun but never succeeded. Beating other human being on the other hand is pleasing lol.

I did listen to audiobooks playing Tibia – its great for this kind of entertainment. 🙂

my wife and I actually went from playing aoe2 coop vs AI to Stardew Valley and are loving it! (although we still fire up AoE once in a while to scratch that Persian elephant spam itch).
